The Gallopers

Mr P was recently asked to paint a new set of Gallopers, the architypical fairground ride. the transformation is amazing. The technique uses a special "flamboyant" paint which glazes the colours to incredible effect especially when brightly lit.

The Mystic Swing

This was a joint project with Banksy, the celebrated Bristol and Hackney based graffiti artist. It was finished in the summer of 2000. And has appeared in many places, Glastonbury, Sunrise, Kingston Green Fair, and Stonehenge, to name a few.

Sadly 2007 was that last summer you could see it in the wild as the artwork is now too valuable and was geting knocked about. A brand new livery is on show this summer, spotted at Glastonbury Festival 2008.

Helter Skelter

Mr P was commissioned to paint this helter-skelter at the Lord Mayor's Show, While standing on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral. His client was Charles Drakeley, Proprietor of a collection called Entertainment's of Yesteryear.

The Lighthouse Slip, as helter-skelters were originally known; took 7 weeks to complete and consists of 58 panels, 6’10" at the base, tapering to 6’3" at the top.

Mr P describes this as heraldic royalist style, the figures are life-size, including two Beefeaters, a bulldog, a raven, a red squirrel, George and the Dragon, banners and mottoes. it was drawn out in chalk then marbled over light green undercoat with rag, brush and goose feather finally filling in the detailed work and added washes for shading. The 9 figures holding heraldic shields at the base are copied from photographs taken of a Portsmouth fountain, the originals are in Windsor Castle. He put two pounds of gold dust in the marbling.
